April 4, 2013Linda,
I love your photos! Can you tell me what kind of camera was used? I would love to have shots like these for my art. I paint in watercolor and want to expand my themes from flowers to wildlife. The shots I have are blurry because the “zoo animals” I visit won’t sit still for my small inexpensive digital camera. I haven’t booked any birdwatching or eco-tours because if zoo watching isn’t clear than I’d never get close enough in the wild for shots like these. Thank you for any tips or advise you may have to give a beginner like myself.

April 4, 2013Hi Sharon,
The most useful resource I’ve found is a book by Bryan Peterson: Understanding Exposure, 3rd Edition: How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera [Paperback]. It will help you understand how to get good photographs wherever you may be shooting. I’ve also watched helpful photo/instruction videos on Lynda.com. I use a Canon 7D camera, but I think you’ll get good results with any entry level digital SLR camera. I’d purchase a Nikon or Canon, if you can, because they offer so many different lenses and accessories. As you get started, you’ll learn about and know what equipment you’ll need to add get the shots you want.
Enjoy!

October 23, 2013I finally got an answer to a bird that I saw in Sand Key thanks to your nighthawk picture. I can add it to my bird book! Fabulous pictures, Linda!
